Somatic: Of or relating to the body, particularly the perception of physical sensations and internal experiences
Details
What does it feel like to exist in a queer body? This workshop aims to help sapphic women and gender minorities find joy, freedom, and connection through somatic exercises that help you embody and embrace your queerness. You will leave feeling confident in your ability to take up space, tapped into your self-expression, and connected to the experiences of your sapphic community.
Here’s a rundown of what to expect:
Opening Exercise: Guided somatic movements to loosen up your body
Community Connection: Rotating conversations with other participants about queer embodiment
Yoga Flow: Creative 30 minute class to explore presence and connect to your self-expression
Guided Meditation: A relaxing combination of breathwork and visualisation to cultivate safety in your body
Closing Connection: Gentle and grounding partner stretches (optional) and group reflections
Who this is for
No prior experience with yoga or somatic exercises necessary! All you need to attend is an open attitude, a desire to connect with your body, and a willingness to share your experience with other sapphics. Yoga mats and all other props will be provided. While this workshop dives into your embodied expression of sapphic identity/sexuality, none of the content is sexual in nature and the small amount of physical touch with other participants is completely optional.
The workshop is facilitated by Megan Edwards, creator of Golden Hour Gigs and a 500CYT trauma-informed yoga teacher. This event is intended specifically for queer women and gender minorities. No TERFS no SWERFS.
Content consideration
Because this workshop focuses on finding joy/pleasure/freedom in your body, it might not be suited for anyone experiencing intense dysphoria. With that said, you are welcome to explore discomfort and work on integrating challenging feelings. Megan is trained in movement techniques to lead you away from anything too activating and help you find safety in your body.
Accessibility
AWHI Yoga & Wellbeing has an elevator and is wheelchair accessible. There are plenty of gender neutral bathrooms and cosy spaces to rest if you need a break from the workshop at any time. If you want to attend but are concerned about the level of movement required, please email the organiser with any mobility questions at goldenhourgigz@gmail.com
