108 Sun Salutations for Summer Solstice

  • Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing Level 2, 15 Johnston Street Wellington New Zealand (map)

Back by popular demand!

We welcome the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, with 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar). The physical and mental challenge of performing 108 rounds of Sun is a ritualistic practice designed to celebrate the seasonal shift by clearing out the old (the things that no longer serve us) to make space for something new.

We’ll begin with a light warm up, some intention-setting, followed by 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun A). Plenty of breaks for rest and reflection included. It is not necessary to complete all 108 rounds to participate. The intent behind the practice is what matters, and all levels are welcome to rest or modify the practice as needed.

We will conclude the event with drinks & nibbles in reception.

Haere mai!

Facilitator

The evening will be led by AWHI co-owner and lead facilitator, Kathleen Kuehn. KK had been doing 108 Sun Salutations to honour the Winter & Summer Solstice on her own for many years before extending the invitation out to the wider Wellington community two years ago. She finds this ritual to be extremely meditative, introspective and grounding, and feels it’s an honour to hold that space for others, as well.
